Our Mission at Vilathikulam

At Vilathikulam, the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo are committed to reaching out to the poor and the marginalized of the locality through education and compassionate care. Guided by our charism and inspired by Gospel values, we strive to uplift children and families who face economic hardship and limited access to quality education.

Education of children and youth forms the core of our ministry in Vilathikulam. Through our boarding school, we provide a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The boarding school ensures regular schooling, nutritious food, personal care, and moral formation, helping children grow academically, emotionally, and socially.

Along with formal education, we also run “Undu Urvida Palli,” an alternative learning initiative that supports children who are unable to cope with regular schooling. This program offers basic education, life skills, and personal attention, enabling children to rediscover the joy of learning and gradually integrate into mainstream education.

A few years ago, responding to the urgent needs of the time, the Sisters also catered to child labourers, providing them with care, education, and protection. By reaching out to these vulnerable children, we helped them move away from exploitative work situations and guided them toward a life of safety, learning, and dignity.

Through our continued presence in Vilathikulam, we remain closely connected with the people of the locality. By educating children, supporting families, and standing with the most vulnerable, the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo continue to sow seeds of hope, transformation, and lasting change in the lives of the poor.
