Home for Destitute & Mentally Ill Women
About Us
Carlo Bhavan is a charitable institution located in Kuruvattucherry village, just 2 km from Gummidipoondi railway station Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, India.
The Home offers compassionate care to women who are wandering, vulnerable, or experiencing mental health challenges, many of whom have been abandoned or left without support.
It provides a safe and nurturing environment where each woman is treated with dignity and given the opportunity to heal and rebuild her life.
Established during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Home emerged as a timely and humane response to the growing number of distressed women in need of protection and a place of refuge. Carlo Bhavan continues its mission of restoring hope, stability, and well-being to women in crisis.

When Lives Break, Carlo Bhavan Becomes a Place of Healing. Every day, women and children in crisis find their way to Carlo Bhavan - alone, frightened, abandoned, or unsafe. Many arrive without a name or a place to call home. Others come wounded, ill, or carrying heavy burdens no one should face alone.
Women who are mentally disturbed, abused, homeless, pregnant, or abandoned turn to us for shelter and dignity. And with patience, medical care, emotional support, and loving accompaniment, their lives begin to heal.

Stories of Hope and Strength
Mrs. Thangam
57 Years Old
Found three years ago on the roadside at Gummidipoondi and was brought to Carlo Bhavan. She was mentally ill, frightened, and alone, but with shelter, compassion, and proper treatment, she slowly began to recover. Carlo Bhavan traced her home in Tirunelveli, and joyfully reunited her with her loved ones.
Mrs. Amuda
28 Years Old
Nine months pregnant and caring for her two-year-old son, she was living alone after her husband's arrest and facing sexual harassment in her neighbourhood. The Carlo Bhavan staff intervened, bringing her to their safe shelter and offering protection and support. After her husband's release, they accompanied her and helped reunite the family
Mrs. Revathi 48 Years Old
found at the Amman Temple in Gummidipoondi, mentally disturbed and with a severe skin condition, was brought to Carlo Bhavan for medical care, treatment, and protection. Her health improved, medication was continued, and she has now been safely reunited with her family. Follow- up support is ongoing
A simple act of generosity can restore dignity, bring healing, and reunite families.
Stories like Thangam, Amuda and Revathi, are not exceptions - they are the everyday reality of our work. To continue serving the growing number of these women with safety, compassion, and quality care, we need your generous support.
